This Pressing
2016 US Dunham/Daptone standard-issue stereo pressing (Rainbo-pressed), flat cream label, the "Unlimited Black Vinyl Edition" cover sticker distinguishing it from the contemporaneous gatefold colored-vinyl pressing; the runout does not match the Trutone-etched lacquer recorded for the catalogued original, so its place relative to that specific stamper generation is not settled from the label alone.
The Album
Changes was the third and, following Charles Bradley's death in 2017, final studio album released in his lifetime, arriving in 2016 on the Daptone-family imprint Dunham after the singer's late-career emergence as "The Screaming Eagle of Soul." Bradley had spent decades scraping by as a cook, construction worker and James Brown impersonator before Daptone built a recording career around him in his sixties, and this album continues the raw, horn-driven soul sound of his earlier work for the label. Its title track reimagines Black Sabbath's 1972 ballad "Changes" as a slow-building soul confession, a song Bradley had begun recording while his mother Inez was dying in 2013 and which he came to perform as a tribute to her after her death the following year. The record is shaped throughout by that loss and by the long estrangement and late reconciliation between mother and son, giving songs like "Ain't It a Sin" and the title cut an unusually personal, confessional weight within the deep-soul revival Daptone helped lead. Bradley's gritty, lived-in voice and the live-band arrangements of the Menahan Street Band and collaborators drew comparisons to golden-era soul and funk singers while keeping the album distinctly his own. Critics greeted Changes as a high point of the modern soul revival and one of the most affecting records of Bradley's short late-blooming career, and it remains a touchstone of the Daptone catalogue's blend of vintage sound and contemporary songwriting.

The Label
The label is cream-colored and flat, with no deep groove, the Dunham logo and catalogue number DUN-1005 at left and the Daptone Records globe logo and DAP-041 number at right, in black and gold-outline type. This is the standard Dunham house design used across the title's 2016-era pressings; the design does not by itself distinguish among the several 2016 and 2022 printings carrying this catalogue number. The front cover's "Unlimited Black Vinyl Edition" sticker marks this as the standard black-vinyl issue rather than the limited gatefold colored-vinyl edition of the same catalogue number, while the runout numbers are a numeric stamper code distinct from the hand-etched Trutone Mastering credit found on one pressing of this release, placing this copy as a standard black-vinyl pressing of a separate stamper generation.
Fidelity
The album was mastered at Trutone Mastering Labs in New York and pressed by Rainbo Records, the standard combination used for Daptone-family releases of this era. Collectors generally rate the label's in-house analog production favorably for its warm, vintage-leaning sound, consistent with the label's hands-on approach to recording and mastering its soul catalogue. No audiophile reissue series (Analogue Productions, Mobile Fidelity, or similar) exists for this title, so this standard stereo pressing represents the primary commercially available cut of the album.
Notes
This 2016 US Dunham/Daptone pressing of Changes is on standard black vinyl, the non-limited "Unlimited Black Vinyl Edition" per the front-cover sticker, as distinct from the gatefold colored-vinyl limited edition sharing the same catalogue number. The cream Dunham/Daptone label is flat, with no deep groove. The runout carries numeric plant/stamper-style codes rather than a hand-etched mastering credit, placing this copy on a separate stamper generation from the Trutone-etched lacquer of the same release; the pressing plant is not identified on the label itself. The design and printed credits otherwise match the title's standard 2016-era issue.
