The Album

Didn't He Ramble, released in September 2015, is Glen Hansard's second solo studio album, arriving three years after his solo debut Rhythm and Repose. Hansard had already built a long career fronting the Dublin band The Frames before an unexpected second act: starring in the 2007 film Once, whose song "Falling Slowly" won the Academy Award for Best Original Song, and touring internationally as half of the duo The Swell Season. For this record he worked with co-producers Thomas Bartlett (Doveman) and David Odlum, framing his weathered, generous voice in folk arrangements colored by horns and strings, recorded across sessions in New York, France, Chicago, and Dublin, with guest vocals from Iron & Wine's Sam Beam and Sam Amidon. The songs function as a loose set of traveler's meditations on endurance, gratitude, and staying the course, with titles like "Winning Streak," "Her Mercy," "Lowly Deserter," and "McCormack's Wall" (a nod to Irish tenor John McCormack) blending contemporary Dublin songwriting with old-time Appalachian textures. Critics responded warmly to its warmth and craft, and the album earned a Grammy nomination for Best Folk Album, cementing Hansard's standing as a distinct solo voice apart from both The Frames' rock intensity and the hushed duets of the Once era.

The Label

Both sides carry Anti-'s 2010s-era picture labels: side A shows a scratchy, high-contrast portrait graphic with a large printed 'A' and the catalog number 87419-1 at the rim; side B repeats the same portrait art but has the full A-side/B-side track listing printed directly on the label instead of a logo, a layout shared across this pressing's variants. Anti- Records, the Los Angeles sister label of Epitaph founded in 1999, has released Hansard's solo work since 2012's Rhythm and Repose, and its mid-2010s catalog runs in the five-digit 87xxx series with no address or rim-text era markers to date it further. There is no printed promo text on the labels themselves, so the promo designation for this copy rests on the plain, hand-annotated cream jacket, a configuration known as the 2015 US promo LP, of which only a handful are known. The runout signatures 'RJ' (Ryan Smith) and 'STERLING' match the retail pressings exactly, confirming this uses the original 2015 campaign metalwork rather than a later repress.

Fidelity

Lacquers were cut by Ryan Smith ('RJ') at Sterling Sound, who handled much of the Anti-/Epitaph vinyl catalog in this era, producing a clean, quiet, dynamic cut from the album's digital masters (tracked and mixed digitally across several studios). The retail 180g US black and European clear pressings share this identical RJ/Sterling metalwork, so this promo-configuration copy sits at the top of a shallow fidelity hierarchy, as there are no audiophile reissues, alternate cuts, or all-analog editions of this title. Collectors on the forums rate the pressing as clean and dynamic with good clarity and separation, with no reported pressing-quality complaints.
